"Honored Warrior" An original painting by David Wright. "In 1775, James Adair, who lived with the Southeastern Indians, wrote about a man wearing a horned head dress. When we think of Indians wearing head wear with horns, we normally associate it with Plains Indians because of photographs and existing pieces. It's unusual for an 18th century Woodland Indian to be noted wearing one. This prompted me to paint my rendition of a Cherokee with a horned head dress. The Gustewah he's wearing is not an existing artifact, but one I've visualized using buffalo horns and beadwork in the Cherokee style." To see more of David Wright's art, visit his website.
