We have developed our Hand Forged Trapper's Axe, a smaller working trapper's belt axe with the head weighing a little over 1 pound, as we recognize the trend towards packing lighter like the original fur trappers and eastern woodsmen. This ideal size hatchet features a 3-1/2" edge for cutting light firewood and a hammer pole head for driving tent & tipi stakes. Hand forged iron, with a forge welded, steel bit, this makes a great all around hatchet for trekking or longer term camp use and can even be thrown. Handles will need to be fitted to the head by the consumer.

This is a great example of belt or trapper axe. My head weighs 13.5oz, so lighter than advertised, which I think is a plus. Picture is accurate to proportions, however, this is a serious project hawk. it is good for its price, but expect to customize it. I had to fit the handle with a rasp and sandpaper, and the axe head had a flat "edge." There is a bevel, but it is as flat and dull as the back of my knife. Took some extended file work to put an edge on it. Hammer handling feels very nice -- it feels about the same as a 16oz hammer banging in a 3" nail, since it is on a longer handle. I haven't had the chance to do any camping yet, but I look forward to using it.
