This Indian Wars Medal (1865-1898) was authorized in 1905 and awarded to members of the U.S. Army who served in any of the 12 major campaigns against hostile Indians between 1865 and 1898. The front features a mounted Indian wearing a warbonnet and carrying a spear, and surrounded by arrowheads and a buffalo skull. The reverse shows the U.S. Eagle and the words "United States Army - For Service".
